VERNON, Ind. -- A bit of a preface to this article. Through the consolidation years many hundreds of schools closed in Indiana. Quite often the decision to close was finalized late in the school year, thus schools were often unaware they had played their final basketball games. However in the case of the Vernon Blue Devils it was known that their game vs. Sandcreek High School(soon to consolidate into South Decatur) would be their last game, forever.
