New Wide Open Format for Hoops Pick'em
INDIANA -- Are you ready for some basketball? It's time for the teams to hit the hardwood, which means it's also time for the Hickory Husker Hoops Pick'em! This is your opportunity to compete in a fun contest where you can display your knowledge of Indiana high school basketball.
The basic concept of the contest is simple. You select the winner of one Indiana boys high school basketball game as your pick each week. The number of points you are awarded for that week is your pick's margin of victory in their game (points will be subtracted if they lose!). The contestant with the most points at the end of the season will be our champion!
This year we're going with a more open format to make things more interesting. Instead of having a list of teams to choose from, contestants can pick any team playing in a given week, with some restrictions. Here are the contest rules:
Games selected for picks must be listed on John Harrell's Indiana Boys Basketball web site (http://indianahsbasketball.homestead.com/boys.html) having both teams identified as of the time the pick is submitted. This means you can't pick "Jonesville over whoever they play in the second round of the county tourney."
Each team can be picked as a winner only once by each contestant.
No team can be selected to be the losing team in more than one of your picked games during the contest.
You must pick at least one team from each of the four classes sometime during the contest.
If a game is rescheduled, it will remain as the contestant's pick and be scored when played on the rescheduled date.
If a game is cancelled, any contestant who picked it will be given the opportunity to pick a replacement game within the following two weeks.
In the event of a tie at the end of the contest, the winner will be the contestant who was in first place the most number of weeks. If that does not break the tie, we'll look at number of weeks in second place, then third place, and so forth until the tie is broken.
Each week of the contest runs from Monday through Saturday. Here is the schedule:
Week 1: Nov. 26 - Dec. 1
Week 2: Dec. 3 - 8
Week 3: Dec. 10 - 15
Week 4: Dec. 17 - 22
Bye Week: Dec. 24 - 29 (no picks this week)
Week 5: Dec. 31 - Jan. 5
Week 6: Jan. 7 - 12
Week 7: Jan. 14 - 19
Week 8: Jan. 21 - 26
Week 9: Jan. 28 - Feb. 2
Week 10: Feb. 4 - 9
Week 11: Feb. 11 - 16
Week 12: Feb. 18 - 23
Here are the rules for sending in your picks:
Email picks to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Picks for the week are due by 4:00 pm Eastern Time on Monday. Picks must be in the contest administrator's inbox by the deadline in order to be counted!
Indicate your real name or your Varsity Club username (however you want to be listed in the standings) with your pick.
You must specify both the winning team and the losing team with your pick. This is necessary in order for the contest administrator to accurately determine which game you are picking when teams play multiple games in the same week.
You may send in your picks one week at a time, multiple weeks at a time, or you can send in picks for the entire season in one email - your choice.
Picks that have been submitted can be changed as long as the change is received by the deadline for that week.
A reminder email will be sent the evening before the deadline each week to all contestants who have not yet submitted a pick for that week. Each week's game results and current standings will be posted on HickoryHusker.com.
Join in the fun and send your pick for Week 1 to email@example.com by 4:00 pm EST Monday, Nov. 26!
