Michigan lineman enjoys Iowa junior day

Michigan lineman Garret Davis is still waiting for his first scholarship offer, but has no shortage of early college interest. This past weekend, the 6-foot-3, 269-pound Davis, who hails from Ypsilanti, made the drive to Iowa City for a junior day visit with the Hawkeyes.

The junior day marked Davis' second visit to Iowa City as he also watched Iowa beat Wisconsin in Kinnick Stadium this past season. The trip gave him another chance to catch up with the coaches, including Phil Parker, who recruits the state of Michigan for the Hawkeyes.

Davis attends Willow Run High School in Ypsilanti, which produced former Hawkeye tight end Tony Jackson, who played for Kirk Ferentz from 2000-2004. Jackson is actually back in the area now and coaching at his high school alma mater.

Along with Iowa, Davis is hearing regularly from Michigan, Michigan State, Arizona, Purdue, and Illinois, among others. While Iowa and others like him at offensive line, some project him more at defensive tackle in college, including Michigan State. Davis, who says he has no preference on his position, also checked out a new school of interest this past weekend, Notre Dame.

Currently, Davis is staying patient as he waits for the recruiting process to play itself out so he can see who offers and further evaluate his options
