Lane looking for another title

Gussie Lane has been a big reason for the success Noxubee County has had over the past two season but because he is an offensive lineman, he is oftentimes overshadowed by some of the Tigers skill players.

The 6-foot-1, 290-pounder hopes to add another state championship to his resume and close out his career with two titles. But he understands that since his team went undefeated in 2008 they will have teams gunning to knock them off every Friday.

"We feel like every week we are going to get everybody's best shot," Lane said. "It's just a simple fact that we are the defending state champions and everybody wants a shot at us and if they can get that win off of us it will build momentum for them for the rest of the season. We are just trying not to give anyone a reason to put a bulls-eye on our back because there is one already there. We just go out and play hard and try to get the 'W' on Fridays."

Lane is one of several key seniors that Noxubee County is relying on for leadership this season.

"We have a great group of seniors and a great group of leaders stating with me, Vincent Sanders, Earnest Harmon and Patreon Hopkins
The Tigers got things started on the right foot this past Friday with a 30-0 shutout of Starkville.
