Goeglein earned girls District 1 honors after she averaged 19.3 points over three games in leading defending Class 3A state champion Fort Wayne Concordia (16-7) to the Sectional 23 title at Fort Wayne Dwenger. First, the 6-0 senior forward netted 13 points in a 54-31 victory over New Haven. She followed with 23 points and nine rebounds in a 41-31 triumph over Fort Wayne Dwenger. Goeglein then added 22 points and seven rebounds in the Cadets' 50-47 final-game win over Angola.
A 5-11 junior guard, Brown collected girls District 2 honors after pacing Mt. Vernon (20-1) to the Class 3A Sectional 27 crown at Hamilton Heights. Brown opened her tournament with 18 points in a 61-56 semifinal win over defending 3A state runner-up Rushville. She then netted 17 points to help the Marauders overcome a 15-point deficit en route to a 77-69 victory over Hamilton Heights.
Lomax is recognized in girls District 3 after a pair of dramatic shots helped Columbus East (15-8) claim the championship of Class 4A Sectional 14. The 5-9 sophomore forward netted just eight points in a 46-45 upset of Bloomington South, but two of them were on a rebound basket with two seconds to go that provided the margin of victory. In the sectional final, Lomax sank a 3-pointer from the left corner -- the first 3-point shot she ever has attempted in a game, she said -- to force a tie at 45 as regulation time expired against Columbus North. She finished with 15 points as the Olympians outlasted the Bull Dogs 61-52 in overtime.
Lovall, a 6-0 senior forward, garnered accolades in boys District 1 after averaging 33.5 points in two games for Kouts (16-2). Lovall opened his week with 27 points and 11 rebounds in a 68-47 victory over Morgan Township. He followed with a career-high-tying 40 points in a 99-63 triumph over Oregon-Davis, a game where he made 8-of-11 3-pointers, including his final seven in a row. Lovall scored 40 points last season in the sectional against Bowman Academy.
A 6-3 senior forward, Haan is honored with the boys District 2 award after averaging 28.5 points in two games. First, he poured in a career-high 38 points as Lafayette Central Catholic (12-5) defeated Clinton Central 77-61. Later, Haan scored 19 points in a 71-50 victory over Tri-Central.
Stutz is cited in boys District 3 after helping Castle (15-2) clinch the championship of the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference. A 6-8 senior center, Stutz totaled 29 points, 16 rebounds and four assists in an 81-73 overtime win against Evansville Bosse in the Knights' only game of the week. Stutz has signed to play next season at Eastern Kentucky University.
