Six cited as IBCA/Pacers-Fever Players of the Week

INDIANA -- Austin Richie of Lowell, D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera of North Central, Dustin Lawson of Jennings County, Tori Bliss of Portage, Jessica Rupright of Norwell and Becca Wagner of Jac-Cen-Del are the IBCA/Pacers-Fever Players of the Week for the week of Nov. 22-27, 2010.

Richie, a 6-1 senior guard, is the state's top returning scorer from last season when he averaged 27.7 points. The Western Michigan recruit started the 2010-11 season in grand fashion, averaging 33.5 points over two games. He scored 31 points in a 74-65 loss to Hanover Central, then followed with 36 points in a 71-52 victory over Hammond Gavit.
Smith-Rivera started his season by leading Class 4A top-ranked and defending state champion North Central to an 87-69 victory over Pike. The 6-4 junior totaled 36 points on 14-of-24 shooting while adding two 3-pointers and going 6-of-6 from the line. He also had four rebounds, four assists and three steals in front of a sell-out crowd in Pike's Ed Siegel Gymnasium.
Lawson averaged 32.0 points in leading Jennings County to a 2-0 start. First, the senior guard made five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points in a 78-75 victory over New Palestine. His fifth 3-pointer provided the game-winning points. Lawson then followed up with 36 points in a 62-53 triumph over East Central.
Bliss, a 6-0 senior forward, averaged 32.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games for the Portage girls. First, she had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 48-45 loss to Andrean. Later, she scored a school-record 43 points and grabbed 12 rebounds sin a 76-71 setback to Merrillville.
Rupright just missed a school-record output for Norwell, the state's No. 1-ranked 3A girls team. The 6-2 junior scored 33 points -- one shy of the Knights' school record -- while hitting 10 of 14 shots and 12 of 16 free throws in a 65-55 victory over Fort Wayne Concordia. The Miami (Ohio) recruit also had eight rebounds.
Wagner produced 29 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in Class A Jac-Cen-Del's 51-46 upset of 3A Batesville. The senior guard also eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau in the game, finishing the week with a career total of 1,012.
This is the third season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association's Pacers-Fever Players of the Week program. Winners are chosen each week from each of the IHSAA's three districts. Girls winners will be chosen from now through the week following March 5. Boys winners will be chosen starting next week and through the week following March 26.
